Using AI to Accelerate Cyber Terrain Library Population
May 12, 2026
AI can help solve one of the more difficult parts of cyber security uplift: turning scattered system information into structured, usable knowledge.
In this demonstration, we explored how AI can support the population of a Cyber Terrain Library, a curated repository of system information that helps teams understand their cyber terrain for risk management, incident response and system authorisation.
The concept is simple. Source material, diagrams and technical documents can be processed into structured summaries, system descriptions, device records, relationship maps and draft risk assessment content. This can reduce manual effort and make large scale library population more achievable.
The value is not only speed. A populated Cyber Terrain Library can also support documentation expected as part of an authorisation package, including material aligned to the Information Security Manual, such as system security and risk management documentation.
The demonstration also highlights an important constraint. AI generated outputs still need human review, validation and judgement. Offshore hosted models are also not suitable for classified or sensitive environments. The real opportunity is to build this capability inside a secure local environment.
Used carefully, AI can help close the gap between what cyber teams need to document and what they have capacity to maintain. This is not a finished solution, but it shows a practical direction for making cyber terrain knowledge more complete, connected and useful.
